Mobile gambling is becoming increasingly popular, and now is the time for gaming developers to get involved in the market. It is important that established online casino operators begin creating titles that are compatible with mobile devices – and that’s exactly what NetEntertainment has done with its latest title, Roulette Touch.

As its name suggests, Roulette Touch is a touch-screen version of online roulette. Designed for mobile phones and tablet computers, Roulette Touch allows players to control the game with their stylus or fingers.

“Roulette Touch is a beautiful product that further enhances our brilliant mobile portfolio and, with its modern look and easy play, we’re confident it will be a big hit with players,” says Simon Hammon, Chief Product Officer at Net Entertainment.

It has been two years since NetEntertainment first started creating mobile casino games. In that time, the online operator has released a total of eleven gambling applications available for iOS. They are highly popular with mobile users, encouraging NetEntertainment to release even more mobile casino games in the future. We are excited to see what mobile developments are next for this innovative operator.

There has been yet another casino of the misappropriation of poker machine funds. This time, the crime has been committed by a former All Blacks player named Lindsay Raki, who used pokie grant money for his own personal gain.

In addition to being a member of the All Blacks, Raki was also a certified accountant. He was in charge of the finances for the Manurewa High School Rugby Academy, applying for pokie grants on their behalf. However, when the grant money was awarded, Raki would put the money in his own bank account.

From 2006 to 2008, Raki had stolen $300 000 worth of poker machine grants from its rightful owner. The case was only brought to light this year, after the Department of Internal Affairs investigated the Academy’s finances.

“The money involved in this case should have been distributed to the community, in particular to young people playing the national game of rugby,” says Debbie Despard of the Department of Internal Affairs. “Every dollar that is misappropriated from pokie machine grants is a dollar that is not available to the community.”

This week, the Auckland District Country found Raki guilty of 11 counts of theft. He has been sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in jail.

Recently, Big Fish Casino has earned the honour of being the top casino title in the iTunes Marketplace. To celebrate this impressive achievement, the company plans on releasing a number of unique new games, including a multi-player roulette title, for its mobile casino app.

Multi-player roulette brings the real-life casino gambling experience online. Traditional online roulette games only allow one player to wager on the wheel at a time, but multi-player roulette provides several players to wager on the same wheel – just like they would at a traditional brick-and-mortar casino. This interactive gambling format enhances the player experience by replicating traditional casino play and adding a social element to online roulette.

In multi-player roulette, a number of new wagers are added, including Neighbour Bets and Call Bets. Players can also chat amongst each other as they play in the streaming chat box.

Big Fish Casino is currently the most popular mobile casino application on iTunes. Over the course of the past year, the app’s revenue has tripled – and it shows no signs of slowing down. Big Fish also operates a number of other, non-casino titles, and its catalogue consist of 250 mobile games and 3000 PC games.

Last week, former Full Tilt Poker CEO Ray Bitar offered a plea bargain to the Supreme Court. At the time, it seemed like a long-shot – but it seems as though he will be getting what he asked for. Yesterday, Bitar pleaded guilty to the charges that were laid against him two years ago on Black Friday. Complying with the terms of his plea bargain, he was sentenced to time served and required to forfeit all of his assets.

The former Full Tilt Poker CEO has received quite a light sentence, due to his failing health. Last month, it was reported that Bitar is awaiting a heart transplant to treat his Class IV Heart Failure. His lawyers have stated that he would not receive the transplant if he were in jail, and offered a bargain that would see him plead guilty if he did not have to serve time.

After pleading guilty, Bitar has been required to turn over $40 million in assets to the American Department of Justice. This includes cash savings and all of his properties. With regards to his ‘time served’ sentence, Bitar will likely not face any time in jail.

Last month, social gaming developer Zynga launched ZyngaPlusCasino.com and ZyngaPlusPoker.com, two domains that would host its new-real money gambling services. This week, they have gone live, allowing players to access a new range of online poker and online casino games.

These two new websites will host online poker and online casino games, allowing players to win real cash prizes. Powered by bwin.party, the sites contain a wide range of exclusive and licensed casino games. At Zynga Plus Casino, players can wager on Farmville slots, play table games and vie for progressive jackpots. At Zynga Plus Poker, there is a vast selection of online poker games, including Omaha and Texas Hold’Em.

Zynga has been making plans to enter the real-money gambling market for over a year. The company aimed to be the first social gaming operator to launch online gambling services, but it was beaten to the punch by Glu Mobile. However, Zynga is still considered to have a leg-up on the competition because the company is experienced with casino apps. Zynga Poker and Zynga Elite slots were only play-money applications, but they attracted exactly the kind of fans that would migrate to the company’s real-money casino.

Social gambling is the next big trend in the online casino world, and Facebook is certainly jumping on the bandwagon. The popular social network has recently launched its first-ever real-money casino applications, and financial experts anticipate that these games will cause a sharp increase in Facebook users.

If the existing pool of Facebook games serves as any indication, new casino apps will attract a new audience to the site. When the social network first started offering games, Facebook attracted millions of new users. Most social games are offered exclusively through Facebook, so anyone wishing to take part would have to join the social networking site.

The same situation could occur with regards to casino applications. Real-money Facebook casino apps like MAGIC888 offer players an exclusive experience that they can’t find at 888’s online casino website. For players to gain access to exclusive games and bonus features, they have to sign up to Facebook.

As such, Facebook could stand to see huge benefits by entering the online gambling market. Currently, there are only a few real-money Facebook casino applications available, but the potential for an increase in users will likely result in more gambling apps making their debut on the social network.

The Department of Internal Affairs is currently investigating a number of cases of fraud. Dozens of pokie trusts and racing clubs have been implicated in the scandal, and the DIA has its hands full investigating claims that more than $30 million worth of pokie grants was fraudulently awarded.

There are three pokie trusts at the centre of the scandal: New Zealand Community Trust, Bluegrass Trust and Infinity Trust. Both Blueglass and Infinity have been involved in scandals previously, so both groups have fairly tarnished reputations. Last year, the Bluegrass Trust had its license suspended for awarding illegitimate grants while Infinity Trust awarded grants to ineligible organizations. Now, both trusts are tangled up in a scandal involving racing clubs.

Last month, the DIA issued 10 warrants, searching several pokie trusts and racing clubs for evidence of fraud. Now, authorities are in the process of interviewing nearly 100 individuals who could have valuable information pertaining to the case.

This case has led politicians to call for stricter pokie grant regulations. It seems that many local organizations and pokie trusts are taking advantage of the lax rules, and it is time that the government tightened up the system in order to prevent funds from being misappropriated in the future.

Every year, SkyCity Auckland hosts the exciting Deepstack Series, offering amateur and professional poker players the chance to compete for generous cash prizes. This year, the event will take place from March 18 to Match 24, and will consist of plenty of side tournaments in addition to the main event.

The Main Event begins on March 21, and players can enter by winning seats in various satellite tournaments or paying the entry fee of $550. Two satellites will take place on March 20 and March 22, before days 1B and 1C. One of five players from each comp will be granted a seat in the Main Event.

There are also several side events available for players to take part in. A $220 No Limit Hold ‘Em tournament and a $330 Pot Limit Omaha tournament will take place on March 23rd, while a Turbo Deepstack will take place on the 24th.

According to SkyCity, there are only ten seats left in the Main Event. After these seats are gone, players will have to rely on the satellites in order to gain entry into the lucrative deep stack tournament.

This year promises an exciting event. So, if you’re an avid poker fan or a local professional, we highly recommend trying your luck at SkyCity’s Deepstack Series this week.

Over the course of the past few years, poker machines have taken the blame for the surge in problem gambling rates. However, recent statistics suggest that a wide range of other gambling activities have contributed to the increase in cases of gambling addiction in New Zealand, including the local lottery.

A new report has uncovered information that suggests the NZ Lotto’s bigger jackpots have encouraged players to display compulsive gambling behaviour. Ever since lottery prizes were increased in 2009, a larger portion of problem gamblers have admitted that purchasing lottery tickets is their preferred form of gambling.

A recently published document titled Preventing and Minimising Gambling Harm found that there has been a significant increase in the number of problem gamblers who choose to play the lottery as their main outlet. In 2009, this number was just 8%. By 2010, it had risen to 11.5% and 2012 saw the number increase to 12%.

The lottery is considered a low-risk form of gambling, likely due to the fact that it is so inexpensive to play. However, problem gamblers can be compulsive when it comes to the purchase of lottery tickets. So, if you know someone who is an avid lottery player, it is important to keep an eye on their spending habits and overall behaviour.
