Full Tilt Poker was previously the top site for online poker in New Zealand – that, until Black Friday struck. The website was shut down by the American Department of Justice in April 2011, and the site was unable to refund its players. Now, thanks to a deal struck with PokerStars, New Zealand poker players will be able to receive their hard-earned cash.
PokerStars has agreed to pay $731 million to the American Department of Justice in order to make this possible. While the majority of the money is being used to settle the civil suit filed against both PokerStars and Full Tilt, over $100 million will be used to repay non-American players.
With many poker player accounts worth thousands of dollars, it is about time that Full Tilt Poker started repaying its former players. They have been waiting for a year to see some progress and now PokerStars has finally pushed the site in the right direction.
There is no word yet on the future of Full Tilt Poker as an operational online poker room at this time. All that has been revealed is that former Full Tilt players will finally be able to withdraw their funds.
