IGT Spends $500 Million on Acquisition

International Games Technology, one of the biggest developers in Australia and New Zealand, has announced that it will be spending $500 million on an acquisition deal with Double Down. This is the second agreement that IGT has taken part in, in order to solidify its place in the online gaming market.

Last year, IGT acquired Entraction, an online gaming company which works with online poker, bingo and betting solutions. According to IGT, the acquisition was made as a strategic move, in order to earn itself a place in the worldwide online gaming market.

Now, IGT is venturing into the social gaming world. Double Down is a social gaming developer, which has earned a stellar reputation thanks to Facebook. The developer’s online casino draws in nearly 5 million users every month, who log on to play casino games for free.

Social gaming seems to be the next big thing for the online gambling world, and IGT is taking the initiative to get a leg up on the competition. So far, few other gambling operators have ventured into the social gaming market and IGT will have a unique spot in the industry if the acquistion deal is successful.
